3 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Stereotype
In reality, we don't believe in stereotyping. It's wrong to classify someone based on their habits, status, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, or any other way that people or stereotyped. Inspired by our commitment and appreciation for mental health, we have decided to write about the 3 reasons why you should not stereotype. Please take notes!
1) They can be blatantly wrong!
We should never make assumptions of someone based off their stereotype, especially because they are often incorrect. It's impossible to generalize a full class of people based on the characteristics of one stereotype.
2) It's emotionally damaging
Everyone has feelings. Even if a person may fit under a stereotype, they don't want to be classified with the stigma of that certain stereotype. We are all unique, and we should be valued based on our persona characteristics.
3) You are contributing to a disgusting society
Even today, we have political leaders, celebrities and other "role models" that say things that contribute to nasty stereotypes of different classes of people. The first step to solving a problem is identifying there is one, and then to do your part to contribute to the solution.
